The Tara "Boom" Houston Children's Foundation is a newly
incorporated (March 2003) private Foundation, registered with Revenue
Canada (June 2003) as a charitable organization, with the heart
and the desire to help chronically and terminally ill children and
their families in their quest for a brighter, healthier future.
The Foundation is named after our daughter Tara (nicknamed
"Boom") Houston, age seven, who lost her fight to a terminal
brain stem glioma (tumour). A very devastating form of cancer with
a very short to nil life expectancy.
Tara fought and survived her condition for six months,
five months longer than the medical system had given her.
With the vengeance of parents not ever giving up or
accepting this terrible fate, to find a cure and save her life became
our mission. A promising and hopeful clinical trial was in progress in the United
States. It was the only hope we had for our daughter's survival.
A public appeal was made to help raise the funds for this very
expensive treatment. The incredible communities in which we are
proud to call home, came through strong, and with great determination
to help us to help our little girl.
Sadly, too good too late, and with Tara's heart breaking passing,
February 9th, 2003, funds were left behind. These funds were put
into the TBHCF once registered to be used in aid of helping other
ill children and their families.
The TBHCF then began as Her foundation, Her legacy, Her families strength! |
